Kraków is very walkable, especially in the city center.
Public transport (trams and buses) is reliable and easy to use.
We recommend the Jakdojade app:
-
plan routes using public transport
-
check real-time schedules
-
buy tickets directly in the app
You can also buy tickets in ticket machines at tram and bus stops.
Most machines accept cards and contactless payments.
Uber and Bolt are widely available and affordable.
Poland uses the Polish złoty (PLN), not the euro.
Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in restaurants, taxis, shops, and hotels. Contactless payments, including Apple Pay and Google Pay, work reliably.
You will rarely need cash, but it is useful to carry a small amount for minor purchases.
EU roaming rules apply, but US SIM cards may incur extra charges.
Options:
Most cafés and public places offer free Wi-Fi.
Emergency number (police / ambulance / fire): 112
This is the main emergency number in Poland and works across the EU.
Pharmacies (“Apteka”) are easy to find in Kraków.
Some pharmacies operate 24/7, especially in the city center.
